Clay wet sand castings can weigh from a few kilograms up to tens of kilograms, while clay dry castings can weigh up to tens of tons. Because sand casting has the above advantages, sand casting is the preferred process of general foundry. Sand casting is the best choice when the density of the casting and the surface finish and mechanical properties are not high.
